In 2000, Japanese was chosen by the Department of Education and Science as one of the target languages to be expanded in secondary level schools. Since then, the number of schools teaching Japanese has increased remarkably. Five universities offer Japanese as a part of the degree, and there is a steady increase in the number of the people studying Japanese at language schools.

The JLTI aims at encouraging and promoting Japanese language education in Ireland through teaching and research.
Our activities include holding seminars and workshops as well as annual speech contest. Members share teaching materials, and exchange information through our mailing list.

The JLTI will have a joint booth with Post-Primary Languages Initiative at J Con on Saturday, 11 November.
We are hoping to provide as much information as possible on studying Japanese in Ireland.
