The JLTI will hold a lecture on 22 November.

Title: "Challenges and strategies for learning and teaching Japanese writing"
Lecturer: Dr. Heath Rose (CLCS, Trinity College Dublin)

Date and Time: Friday, 22 November, from 6:30 pm.
Venue: Room 3051, Arts Building
Admission Fee: JLTI members and students: none; general admission: 5 Euro.
This lecture will be in English.

Topics:
(1) A workshop on the new (current) JLPT:
As you are aware, the JLPT has been revised in 2010. In order to give appropriate help to your students preparing for the test, we teachers also have to know exactly where and how the test has been revised. Kondo sensei along with Inoue Sensei will guide us analise the sample of new tests.
PLEASE NOTE that the target of the workshop are those engaged in training the applicants and NOT those planning to take the test.

(2) A presentation on the ELP for the secondary school level Japanese:
Now that the ELP has been uploaded on the internet, a brief presentation will be given to show how to go to the ELP pages, which bottons to click to fill the Passport page, etc. (approx.10 minutes)

The Embassy of Japan in Ireland and the Japanese Language Teachers of Ireland (JLTI) are pleased to announce a Poster Competition to mark the 10th Japanese Speech Contest in Ireland, scheduled to take place in March 2012.

Application guidelines:
  • Theme: free (Previously published material will not be accepted)
  • Type of design: free (drawing, illustration, painting, etc.)
  • Size: A4
  • Format for submissions: paper or digital, with your name and contact number (E-mail address/postal address)
  • Method of application:
  •   By post: Poster Competition Committee, Embassy of Japan, Nutley Building, Merrion Centre, Nutley Lane, Dublin 4

On 27 January 2010, Chie Oda, a member of the JLTI and our former Chairperson, received the Japanese Ambassador's Commendation. It was awarded for her contribution to Japanese language education in Ireland, and her efforts in promoting cultural exchange between Ireland and Japan.
